Available Courses

  • Required by 15 and 16 year olds for a Louisiana Learner’s Permit
  • Required by 17 year olds for a Louisiana Intermediate License
  • A TIP (temporary instruction permit) must be obtained at the office of motor vehicles before the first day of class.
  • List of items to bring to the OMV.
  1. Original or state certified birth certificate (no photocopies) and another primary document or two secondary forms of identification.
  2. Social security card
  3. School enrollment form from current high school student is attending.
  4. Original or court ordered custody papers (if applicable)
  5. Legal custodial/domiciliary parent/guardian with their driver's license or state ID card.

Requirements

  • Age 15 for the classroom portion and the driving portion
  • Note: A student can be age 14 years and 9 months to be eligible to take the course, but must be 15 years of age to take the driving portion of the course.
  • This class is a requirement for 15 and 16 year olds receiving a Class E Learner’s Permit.
  • All students must be able to pass the State OMV Test.

Explanation of Class

  • This course is a 30 hour classroom instruction and an 8 hour one-on-one behind-the-wheel instruction.
  • Class runs from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
  • Students will be given a lunch period, so you are encouraged to bring a packed lunch.
  • The classroom portion of instruction is 30 hours over 4 days and includes lectures on traffic laws and regulations, signs, traffic lights, and markings, correct and safe driving procedures, emergencies, driving hazards including weather, alcohol and drug abuse, motorcycle safety, interstate driving, and driving offenses, trailer safety, and what to do when pulled over by law enforcement.
  • Upon completion of classroom instruction, a test will be administered which requires a passing score of at least 80%
  • After passing your test, students will be trained in a dual-brake training vehicle, and are scheduled in FOUR two-hour blocks on different days.
  • No student will begin the 8 hour driving portion until they complete the course requirement and have paid in full.

No student will be given a certificate before meeting these requirements.


Registration

  • Registration is required for all courses.
  • A $50.00 non-refundable deposit is required to hold a spot in the class and must by paid by the deadline date on the invoice once received.

  • A TIP (temporary instruction permit) must be obtained at the Office of Motor Vehicles before scheduled class date.
  • List of items to bring to the OMV to obtain a TIP.

  3. Proof of residence ( two proof of residences if applying for a real ID)   NOTE: if adult has a valid Louisiana state ID already and their social security numer is in OMV’s system, then only the ID and proof of residency is needed.

  • This course is a 6 hour classroom instruction, and 8 hours one-on-one behind-the-wheel instructions.
  • Class times are 8:30 am to 2:30pm
  • Students will be given a lunch period, so you are encouraged to bring a packed lunch.
  • The classroom portion of instruction is 6 hours over 1 day period and includes lectures on traffic laws and regulations, signs, traffic lights, and markings, correct and safe driving procedures, emergencies, driving hazards including weather, alcohol and drug abuse, motorcycle safety, interstate driving, and driving offenses, what to do if pulled over by law enforcement.
  • Upon completion of classroom instruction, a test will be administered which requires a passing score of at least 80%.
  • After passing your test, students will be trained in a dual-brake training vehicle, and are scheduled in FOUR two-hour or TWO four-hour blocks on different days.

  • An original copy of the students 30-hour or 6-hour certificate is required before driving instruction can begin.
  • The minimum age requirement for behind the wheel training is 15 years of age.

  • This course is a 8 hour Behind-The-Wheel Instruction instruction only.
  • Students will be trained in a dual-brake training vehicle, and are scheduled in FOUR two-hour blocks on different days.
  • No student will begin the 8 hour driving portion until they complete the course requirement and have paid in full.
  • No student will be given a certificate before meeting these requirements.

Registration

  • Call to register.
  • Proof of age is required.
  • If under 18 a parent must be present to enroll.

Tchefuncte driving Academy is licensed by Louisiana Department of Public Safety, Office of Motor Vehicles to conduct 3rd Party Road Skills testing for Class D & E Type Licenses.


A passing score of 80% before the applicant can earn the certificate of completion for a road skills test.

Requirements:

  • Students whom are physically and / or mentally handicapped must go to the DMV for their respective Road Skills Testing.
  • The Road Skills Test Fee is non-refundable.
  • Please call  ahead for available dates and times

  Age 16:

  • Must have had your Learner’s Permit for at least 6 months before road testing with us. In addition, you must wait until the 6 months are complete before upgrading the permit to a provisional license to the DMV.
  • Must present applicant’s birth certificate and learner’s permit.
  • One parent (listed on birth certificate) must be present, and with their ID.
  • Parent must sign affidavit at the DMV, stating the teen applicant completed 50 hours on the road training (15 of which were at night) with a 21 years old or older licensed person.
  • Must present High School enrollment form to the DMV.

Age 17: 

  • May take immediately after completing a driver education course, present driving school certificate to us.
  • Must present applicant’s birth certificate.
  • A parent on birth certificate must be present and have their identification.
  • Must have High School enrollment form or diploma. 

Age 18 & Up

  • May take immediately after completing required driver training course, and present driving school certificate to us.
  • Present State Approved Identification

Road skills test will be given regardless of where your driver education courses were taken.
